Fieldwork

Being a field research geologist involves some work in operating quarries. This is the place where one can find beautiful exposures of sediments as they were laid down, deposited by transporting medium (waterm wind, mass movement etc.). From these exposures one may describe the sedimentary structures - the form, the manner in which sediments were laid down. Identification of such features allows to deduct what process and what "medium" was responsible for the deposition of the sediment: was it water, wind, mass movements, glacial ice?.....

Working in a quarry is hedged around by multiple, strict health and safety regulations.

More interesting information on the routing of field research geologist will follow here and also on blog.
